OK, so this year’s
Indianapolis 500 won’t be run in the month of May. For many of us, however, May
is more state of mind than just a month. So let’s still celebrate great cars
and drivers of the past anyway!
30 Days in May:
No. 1 Joe Leonard, 1972 Samsonite Parnelli/Offy. An early qualifier, Leonard
set one- and four-lap records that were subsequently topped. He started sixth
and finished a very respectable third, helping propel Leonard to his second
straight national championship. Not bad for the supposed No. 3 driver – behind Al
Unser and Mario Andretti – in the first year of the “Super Team” of Vel
Miletich and Parnelli Jones. #Indy500 @IMS @IMSMuseum @IndyCar
