OK, so this year’s
Indianapolis 500 won’t be run in the month of May. For many of us, however, May
is more than just a month – it’s a state of mind. So let’s still celebrate great
cars and drivers of the past anyway!
30 Days in May:
No. 10, Michael Andretti, 1991 Kmart-Havoline Lola/Chevrolet. What’s May
without an Andretti “almost”? This was the closest Michael came to winning the
Indianapolis 500, finishing second to Rick Mears after a breathtaking duel in
the late stages. In his Indianapolis 500 career, Michael Andretti led 431 laps,
0 wins. Rick Mears led 429 laps at Indy, 4 wins. He’s had great success as a car owner in the
Indianapolis 500, though, with five victories. #Indy500 @IMS @IMSMuseum
