Welcome to our monthlong countdown celebrating notable drivers and cars from the Indianapolis 500!
Danica Patrick had an amazing
debut in 2005, when she qualified a surprising fourth, demonstrating incredible
reflexes and ability to keep from crashing when the car stepped out on her. She
then earned one of the loudest roars ever from the crowd when she took the lead
in the late stages of the race, which was won by Dan Wheldon. Patrick’s final
500 in 2018 ended with a crash and she wound up 30th, one of only
two finishes outside the top 10 in eight starts.
